Different Banner For Each Forum

I too would like to work out how to do this.

I tried using conditionals, ie:

<if condition="$forum[forumid]==1">
header for forum #1 goes here
<else />
<if condition="$forum[forumid]==2">
header for forum #2 goes here
<else />
main header goes here
</if>
</if>

but that doesn't work for some reason.
