What Coding Language To Pursue Further?
Hello ladies and gentlemen.
College classes have started back up for me and I am noticing that I have a VERY light load this semester. With that being said, there are a couple 2-3 classes that I have the ability to add on. I was looking into the web programming classes that are available. The most popular seem to be pHp, Javascript, and Actionscript (Flash's scripting language). I know for a fact that I want to develop my Actionscript knowledge to make me more proficient in my scripting for that program specifically. Now, the issue that I seem to be having is trying to figure out whether pHp or Javascript would be more beneficial in vBulletin skin design. I do create my own skin designs and I am already proficient in the design end of the spectrum. Just need to really hone in on my coding abilities. Anyways, Javascript versus pHp for vBulletin skin design? What is your take? Please provide reasoning as to why you believe the language you choose would be best to pursue further. Thank you all very much for your time and look forward to hearing responses. |

Javascript is probably what you need.
Actionscript is similar to Javascript. If you are proficient in Actionscript migrating to Javascript will not be hard. If this is the case you may want to take PHP. PHP has nothing to do with design ... it's a server language. I'm assuming you already no XHTML/CSS. |

javascript and php are both pretty much the same type of language. If you know one youll be able to figure out the other. PHP is serverside and javascript is client side. So to answer your question it really doesnt matter between the two. Actionscript may be good for you if you want to start some flash sites. otherwise php, javascript leading onto ajax is a good combination i think.

Are you already good with photoshop or doing anything artistic in general? If not I would suggest taking some art classes and maybe one that deals directly with photoshop. Learning javascript and php could benifit you a lot but not as much as begin able to design your own images. If you already know xhtml/css you should be able to move into javascript on your own without much trouble.

I am taking a couple of Advanced Photoshop classes at the moment. Per what you guys have stated and I think is best, I have gone ahead and enrolled in an Advanced Javascripting class (was able to get the instructor's permission) and Flash Programming For Web Development. All of which will only make me more versatile
Thanks for your input fellas. |
