How long should anti virus take to scan?
It's a little old laptop with a 40GB drive and about 40% free space.
Anti virus has now been running for over 4 hours. It seems a long time to be scanning to me. Does it seem about right or should I be starting to worry now? |

Labtops ususally takes twice as long to scan as a desktop PC if of course they used the same space
What kind of anti virus scanner are you using? |

Using AVG Latest version.
It finally finished after 6 hours. Shocked really because my old PC with a total of 750GB HDD that was almost full only took 5 hours. |

My 200 GIG Takes 4 Hours and I had Kaspersky But that was back then, I don't have a virus protector since it slows down the PC a ton |

Ya laptops are slow to save battery .
The time it takes depends on the speed of the drives, the files you are AV, and the amount of free space. EX: I have an 2x 80 gigs in 1 system non-raid on a desktop. 1 with 3-5 meg mp3's @ 70 gigs. (15-20,000 files) 1 with 1k-200k gif, jpg, xml, php files @ 40 gigs (300-500k files) It will take 30 min for the MP3 drive and 4-5 hours on the other. |

I have a combined 374 GB of storage (74 GB of which is on 10,000 RPM RAID 0 hard drives, the remainder if on normal 7200 RPM IDE hard drives). Something like 200 GB is in use, and it takes AVG Free one to two hours to scan the whole thing.
My server has 1.08 TB combined space (80 GB system drive, 500 GB data drive with videos, MP3s, etc., and 500 GB backup drive), but that's running Linux so no antivirus on it. |
