The titles are worked out automatically and staff have no effect on them. However, if you are close to the boundary that the system uses to work out the titles then an install or uninstall click can tip it either way.

Anybody's title can change especially when people are uninstalling modifications from one verison of vBulletin to install modifications for another version.
