Default Forum Depth and Child Forums

I've done some searching and have found very little in the forum dealing with this. Maybe someone knows how to do this or knows of a hack to do this.

My Forums is as such: My front page has categories situated like this:

Category - Nopost
-forum (nopost)
--sub-forum (post)
--sub-forum (nopost)
---2nd sub-forum (post)
---another 2nd subforum (post) - this is where the problem lies. The subforums here show up under the subforum and not inside. I've messed with the settings and added the forum_diplay_3_nopost and post template mods but it still doesn't correct how this shows.
---"" "" ""
-forum (post)
-forum (nopost)

So essentially, I'd like my users to be able to drill down 3 forms for another example.

My Forum Home
-Philosophers (this is a category - nopost)
--Aristotle (this is a forum -nopost)
---Life (this is the sub-forum - post) - and so on.
---Works
---Philosphy
--Hume
---life
---works
---Philosophy

Please take a look at www.philosophyforum.com to see what I'm trying to do.

Thank you all for any assistance you can provide.

Okay, I know that you asked how to do this--but I am going to recommend that you not do it.

It is too discrete--you will have lots of forums with only a few messages in each, and people will post questions in (what youi or your members think is) the wrong section, and you'll end up moving stuff all over the place. How does one separate life from work from philosphy?

The "Philosophers" category also seems unneccessary since (if I am understanding properly) all of your public sections are about philosophers.

I would suggest that you structure your forum like this:

My Forum Home
-Aristotle
-Hume
-Pascal
-Locke
-Rousseau

I do appreciate this advice and I think you are probably right. If I have the front page loaded with philosophers though, this could get very large. I've broken them down as it is because the front page was getting very large for a landing page.

Also, been considering things like vbdrupal.org or vbadvanced.com so there can be side bars and such. Just want it organized very well for the long haul.

Remember, with Branches of Philosophy there are several subforums and with philosophers, this could get very large.

Thanks for you help!

I have found that there is no one forum structure that will last for the long haul--plan on tweeking it at least once a year to keep it fresh and adapt to the changing needs of your user base.

I have learned to utilize the "watch where people walk, then put the paths there" approach to creating sections. Perhaps you should even just start with philosophical movements (and then break out sections for individuals whom become particularly popular).
