If you are paying thousands of dollars a year for webhosting shouldn't the hosting company automatically keep your account software current?

My hosting company wants to charge me to upgrade my MySQL. I want to upgrade my VB.

Do you folks think that is fair? It seems to me that practice just encourages people like me to move to another hosting Co. to get the latest software.

Maybe I am just nuts!

it seems that my upgrading for you they are upgrading for everyone on the shared server. Seems like a no brainer. It also seems in their best interest to stay current although upgrading my cause headaches for people that can't use a newer version, if that is possible.

Tell you hosting company to take a running jump and move to a decent one.

If you are paying thousands of dollars then I would have thought you would be better just getting your own dedicated server.

Well... truth be told I pay around $2,000 per year for my VPS (they are a very well known host).

If you have a VPS then surely you control what software is on it yourself, that's one of the selling points - it's acts like a dedicated server so you run what you want.

If your server is managed, they would keep your software current.

For real, i pay barely over 2k a year for a awesome dedicated server.

Add that with about 30 monthly for server management, and there isnt ever a single problem to be found
