I'm not worried.
People go to MySpace to make a profile and mess with their friends profiles. Every once in a while they will post, but their member to posting ratio has got to be horrible. I don't know anybody who uses MySpace forums, but I do know a lot of people who use MySpace profiles. People do NOT go to forums for cool profile pages. Sure it's an added attraction if it fits your forums "crowd," but it's not something that most people care about. Focus on forum content, not profile content. :-) I predict MySpace will become the Geocities of the 2000 decade. Only time will tell though. I personally have never liked MySpace and don't really have a use for it. Sooner or later it will be purchased by Yahoo and put next to their Geocities link. :-) |

Personally I've seen vBulletin on the news many times, including CNN. For awhile it seemed like every terrorist in the world was using a pirated copy of the software (they would show screen caps of posts on vBulletin forums on the news). It was also shown on techtv (mostly on The Screen Savers) multiple times over the years. As for MySpace I see it as a fad to be honest. While my brother and everyone he knows uses it, I can only name off two of my friends that do. The rest of them don't use the internet at all, or know better than to bother with MySpace in the first place. There are still many people out there that have no use for Myspace and most of them happen to be part of my niche. At some point MySpace will cease to be 'hip', and people will move on to the next thing. Until then we all have to deal with hearing about it everywhere we go. BTW am I the only one that hates the "It's not a phone, it has myspace mobile!" commercials? I swear if someone talked to me like that I'd slap 'em, then I'd smash their 'phone'. Also last time I checked my cell phone could do IM ages ago. Last but not least I don't like the idea of NewsCorp (of all people) running such a site. I guess they figure brainwashing us via the TV just isn't good enough. By all means let the world know of your every move, and your ring of friends, and all the things you do in your life. Us people that know better will be around flying under the radar. |

Xanga used to be all the rage around here. I never really hear about it anymore. The same will happen to MySpace when some new fad hits.

I agree with that, however, Xanga didn't have or will not have the financial support that Myspace has right now, and I don't think after paying 580 million FOX is going to let it die just like that, at least not until they make all that money back with some extra profit on it. But again most or if not all the money comes from advertising, and myspace has enough of that already. So I can imagine people getting tired of the ads and leave.
However, I think whoever is running myspace's design team should be fired. |

I've used myspace and facebook as a blueprint of sorts for what I can do with my page - then I add my own flair and ideas, and hope to grab the "niche" market.

I am happy myspace is around. Gives me a new marketing avenue!
