Default Webhosts

A couple days ago i would have suggested(with a ton on enthusiasm) that people use JMFHosting. But now i am really pissed, at when i was going back to my forum homepage i got a database error, so i went into cPanel to see the log, it turns out my host completely randomly deleted my vb database, so i checked my personal blog, it had no database too! i emailed my host, i do hope it dosn't take him 15 days to reply like last time. i really think i am switching hosts it i don't get a real good reason for this.

*MeleFire takes a breath

So now im just waiting, i really hope that he backed up sometime within the last hour. I had to restrain myself from kicking my computer!

That sucks. I know how that feels. So far I've been with my current hosting for 2 years, (have 3 domains, 2 for fun and private, 1 which is new and am slowly building up) and as far as I know I have had a total of 15 minutes of unexpected downtime. So far my experience with mine has been great, if ever I have needed anything done, I have just phoned them and within minutes have been talking to someone, who actually got what I needed done. I can't say that my experience is the rule, since perhaps I've just been lucky, but so far so good.

http://jmfhosting.com/ A hosting company with unrealistic packags.

See if you have a back-up. If not, go cry. That's what I would do. >.>

Try to get a backup and then find a _much_ better host.

Look for a host with realistic limits, theres no way in hell he can offer anyone 10gb of storage and 100gb of bandwidth for only 15 bucks a month. At most with a host that has a very large bandwidth allotment he could have 25 people on that machine, but that means he'd also need 250gb of storage, just for websites, not including backups or the OS files tiself. So they'd need a machine with 500GB worth of storage and 2500GB of bandwidth. But that would only net this guy 375 a month, a server like that proball costs at least 200-300 a month. So chances are hes greavely over selling. which means close to 50 or 100 or 200 sites on this server. Theres no machine that could possible hold 50 or 100 websites that could each use 10GB and 100GB. Do the math

Make sure you do backup daily/weekly. Don't rely on your host to do that!

sorry to hear that happen to you man, I would be furious. I checked out the hosting company and the deals look a bit too good to be true and I have to agree with Zachery.

Usually hosting companies back up servers everyday/everyweek, so as soon as you got the backup just make sure you move to a different host.

Cause if a hosting company deletes a database on mistake, then imagine what else they could do to screw up your website.

Hope everything gets sorted out for you, good luck.

melefire, just a suggestion you might want to email your host about, i suppose your dbs are not deleted, you mentioned ur using cpanel , which leads to the fact that if mysql was failing on the server your cpanel will see it as no db for any user , so it might be as simple as restarting mysql for you !
Normaly, even for endusers, hosts allow services to be seen in cpanel running services, check if mysql is running okey, one last resolution, sometimes for some reason the db info disappears and your dbs will fail, in such a case, from your side you will need to recreate the dbs and usernames manually ( BUT FIRST, your host should be copying /var/lib/mysql/YOURUSER_* data, when you recreate the user it will recreate the mysql connection for you and all they will have to do then is copy back replacing your folders !
Ofcourse all hosts or most of them at least have backups , so shouldnt worry too much!
