How do I remove the Last Post column?

I'd really like to remove the "Last Post" table from the forum index, forumdisplay, and showthread pages.

Before I start, I'd really like some advice as to whether there are any special considerations I need to take on board first. Is the code modication really going to be that simple? I'm feeling a little hesitant to even begin this as it seems a pretty major act of editing.
