Moving Stored images
I am helping a friend to Administer quite a large Vbulletin based site. In the last week or so we have had a lot of dowtime on the site, due to to many connections and the current downtime we are unsure of the reasons. However it is just this site and just this database out of a lot we have hosted with this host, and some on the same server, we have a little gallery script installed on the same domain and using a database which is running fine. I cannot even connect to the vb database with phpmyadmin.
The host we use is very reliable and has a very good reputation we also have lots of space on the server. The site he runs is for web design, just about every thread is full of medium to high quality images of web pages, logos etc. On average a thread lasts for 3-5 pages with probably 50% of the posts containing an attachment. The site is configured (I think. We cannot access anything to confirm it) to store all images in the database. Our SQl usage is currently at 7327.38 over 98% of that is the Vbull database. Im wondering if such a huge database is what is causing all the problems, does this sound feasible? Is it possible to set it up so images are stored on the server in a folder instead of the database so we can keep the database a little more optimized. Also is it possible to convert all images currently held in the database into the folder, I have a feeling the server will cope better with a large folder and smaller database. Is this possible to do? Thanks for the help. rgds Paul |
