The graph may just look pointless but it's really number of posts plotted against the hour (ex: 1700 GMT is about a peak in posting).

The query is incredibly server-intensive (takes 2.5 seconds on my relatively small test board!) so I can't release this as a template mod and I don't want to release it as a hack, but it's fun to watch.
