Car/Train/Plane/Ship Spotting Registry/Log...

I'm looking to create a "Car Registry". Basically I want it integrated with the vB user Db and usergroup permissions. Basically it's a place to view or post images and text based on a certain model of car and even specific serial number. Various car clubs, auction houses, or even cross sell it to train spotters, plane spotters, and ship spotters. The basic structure would be?

- user permissions based through vB.
- header and footer generated from vB.
- car model table, example: Ferrari 308
- serial number table, example: 1984 Ferrari 308 GTS QV S/N 42376
- event table, example: S/N 42376 spotted at Monterey car show 08/14/04 and thumbnail pics

A user could look up a particular model car and it would display all the individual cars with log entries, you could then select a specific S/N car and get a listing of all events that car had been logged with.

Does something similar to this already exist? Do you think any of the photo integration hacks could handle this as a start?
