Default Rule Change Regarding Hacks about independent commercial software.

Hey everybody,

We changed this rule:
Quote:
5) Addons for the following commercial software are exempted from Rule (4) - ie. members can release hacks for these. Any commercial software not listed below will be subject to Rule (4):
a) Photopost
AS

Quote:
5) Uncommercial vbulletin hacks that integrate vbulletin into third party independent commercial software CAN be released in vbulletin.org provided that the hack thread is not created to promote the sales of the commercial product. (Independent scripts are the software that are able to run without needing vbulletin).
Here is a FAQ for this rule change:

* So what does this rule change mean?

It means that our members are now welcomed to release free hacks that integrate vbulletin into third party commercial software like photopost, reviewpost, realchat, digichat etc.

* What is "independent script" the rule is referring to?

It means it should be a script/software that can run even if you don't have vbulletin installed.

* So can I release a paid vbulletin hack now?

No. The hack you release should still be FREE. However the software your hack is about can be commercial anymore.

* What's the purpose of this rule change?

We wanted to host hacks in vbulletin.org which can be useful to our members who are using other commercial software in their sites together with vbulletin. For instance if you are using a commercial chat software, you can now release a hack in vb.org that integrates this software to vbulletin.

* What do you mean by "..hack thread is not created to promote the sales of the commercial product.."?

We want such threads be created in our site so as to be useful to our members, not to promote the sales of commercial software. So we are not going to allow threads if their sole purpose is to advertise such commercial product or give support for them within our forum.

* So can't the owner of the commercial independent software release a hack here about his product?

He sure CAN. But we kindly ask him to support or promote his own product in his own site and dedicate our hack thread to the support of the hack only.

Any more questions? Please feel free to ask.
