Latest Threads and Hottest Threads on Home Page!

Ok Guys here is what I need:

I want box on the homepage of my forum that contains a link to the latest Thread (not post) by a certain user (and only that user). Every time the user creates a new thread I want the link to update automatically to that Thread. Is this possible?

I also want a box on my homepage that only contains Threads that are getting the most replies, also a box containing the newest Threads and both boxes update automatically as Threads are created.
Can this be done?
