1stly the back button method, leave the read messages showing as unread, and if I'm working or on the phone, it's easier to re-read the same message.
2ndly it's the same number of clicks and scrolling, (although I'm not trying to avoid moving my mouse an extra inch to the back back button, it is actually a more precise click required because my toolbar is tiny, and I have a tab option for the "New Posts") the only thing it does save is not having to scroll to page 3(when that's an issue).
