Showing Login TextBoxes on Main Page

On quite a few style mods you will see custom login text boxes in the upper right corner.

I would like to add this but have never done any PHP work at all (I am a developer but just about all of my experience is in C++ doing application development.)

It couldn't hurt to learn another technology but frankly right now I'm more interested in getting the site set up the way I want it and working on content.

Can anyone point me into the right direction code-wise?

My version is Vbulletin 5 Connect. I've owned it for 2 days.
