I have been researching this today. Impex works, but some things will be lost:
(attachments, social groups, albums. etc) See image below.

Impex does keep the users, posts, and user passwords however.

I plan on trying this soon. 4.x has been really terrible for me, but I never had a problem with 3.x

I waited a long time to downgrade because I believed 4.x would improve.

Jelsoft response to suggestion of downgrade script or downgrade ability

Active downgrade service (if you can't do it yourself and need help).
