recent blogposts with attachment images

hello there. I am looking for a way to display the recent blogposts on the CMS-Mainpage with the first image of the blogpost. Is there any way to pull the first attachment out of the post? If not, is there any place where i could dig deeper in the php to make it appear? This function is quite vital for the page i am designing.

please help...
