Is there a way to display the latest topics on forum home for each forum?

I have 3.7.4 Vb

and I have had a request from users to have the latest topics more prominent on forum home. My current structure is

General forum (Parent)
Running (sub)
Non-running chat (sub)

I want it so it shows
General forum (parent)
Running (sub)
Latest Thread 1
Latest Thread 2
Latest Thread 3
Latest Thread 4
Latest Thread 5

Non Running
Latest Thread 1
Latest Thread 2
Latest Thread 3
Latest Thread 4
Latest Thread 5

I am willing to drop the parent/sub thing if i can just have
Running

etc

Can anyone explain if this can be done....
