New style, mods no longer showing?

I've uploaded a free style using the xml that was given... now that i switch to that one, the mods i've made to templates for things like navbar, postbit, etc don't show up... is there any way to make this new style inherit all the templates from a previous one?

note, i have made this a child to the default, it still doesn't work... there are lots of things missing from postbit & navbar (i'm sure more, i just noticed those off the bat)
