Thread count totals

At the bottom of the screen where it shows the newest member, there is a total threads count.

I have the forum set up so that some forums do not show to unregistered, and another is only available for promoted users. I am not so interested in the unregistered, but is there a way to stop the threads in the promoted forum being shown in the totals at the bottom so that if someone adds up the total threads it then comes back to the total at the bottom of the page? I imagine its possible and I am happy to add code but I cannot do the coding if that makes sense!!
