I had the same problem with my install of VB. Working with Steve Machol of VB support, he found it was my style that was corrupt. However, my userid still showed the same problem, after it had been correct, I had to delete that userid and rebuild it before I could use the pull down menus.
Try creating another style, without using Parent style of "No Parent Style", setting that as the default style and using another userid to log in.
