Need VB SEO & Advertisement Advice.

First off what does VB SEO acuatlly do I've read up on this, somehow it makes your search engine rank go up, I believe. I'm really not sure. Can anyone provide me with details on this, my board is very small and new would this even have an effect on it?.

Secondly, my co-owner and I bought over $200 worth of advertisements, products, such as business cards, wristbands, shirts, etc for our forums. It fits into the theme, we are thinking of having a booth at a festival, and passing cards out at local shopping stores with permission, do you think this will draw even enough people in.

How can we get more members, I've done the whole myspace, facebook, etc directory thing, nothing is working?. Perfect skin, layout, etc. Is it just not getting enough hits yet, how can we change this.

Also yes, we are going to do paid posting before we hand out or promotion items in person. Which is in a week.

Were struggling already, what can we do!. thank you in advance for you help, its honestly very appricated.
