BBcode in Calendar event and Thread titles?

I searched very hard for something like this here, and found nothing.

Would it be too hard for something like this? I assume it's just telling BBcode to parse in those fields, but I haven't the slightest idea how to go about it.

Oh that's right.. there's no longer a functions_bbcodeparse.php

Anyone able to convert this to a plugin/product?

I'm also aware of Thread Title Enhancements hack, but it applies styles to the whole thread title, whereas I was looking to use BBcode in the titles to Italicize and Bold specific parts of titles, but not the whole thing.
