Request - Banners related to the forum being looked at
Hello,
Is there a way to identify banners with a "subject" (or something similar), and assign those "subjects" to individual forums? The objective here is to better target our marketing. If a member is looking for a car related forum, I'd show him car related banners. But if he's looking at a gardening forum, cars wont be of any interest and he would much rather see ads for plants, gardening equipements, stuff like that. And if the member is somewhere else in the portal (or in a forum with no specific "subject"), all ads could be selected. Sounds like a basic request to me (the idea, not necessarily its implementation!). Can someone tell me if that feature exists somewhere? FYI, I'm using vbPortal's banner system. So, Is there an easy way to hack vbulletin/vbportal in a way similar to this: 1) Add a "subjects" field in forums (ex: NewYork forums, NewYork-Cars Sub-forums) 2) Add a "subjects" field in banners (ex: NewYork-Cars) 3) In the banner generation code, use the banner subjects field to select banners using one of the forums' subjects. 4) Wildcards would also be great to group multiple forums and sub-forums together (ex: "NewYork-Cars" matched with "NewYork-Cars and also "NewYork*"). I can program but unfortunately not in PHP (yet!), so I don't mind to play with the code, as long as I know what to do. Anyone? PS: I also posted a similar request on vBPortal's forums, and scotsmist suggested I take a look at phpadsnew. But I prefer the integration of vbPortal, and I figured there might be a larger audience here |
