I completely understand. However, I'm very used to updating code by hand every time there's an update from Jelsoft anyway, due to the hacks on my system. With the new "hook" system in vb3.5, I'm sure it will get easier for most folks to update.
Now that I'm VERY intimate with all of the vBulletin source, I'm completely comfortable maintaining the source myself with each update from Jelsoft. I completely understand your desire to make a more "simple" method of porting to another database backend, and if it works out would be a great way to transition to another DB. I'm also curious as to when Jelsoft will make alternate DB backends available in the mainstream product. I can only imagine they've done some work in-house to this end, the evidence is there in vb 3.5.x via the new class structure. |
