How to use "thread started" in "lastpostby"?
I'm reworking a site so that some of its forums act like normal forums, and some act more like blogs (first post in the forum is the blog entry, all replies are 'comments' on the blog entry). On the forumhome page (ie. index.php), we list everything, along with the "forum" description and the 'lastpostby' info (i.e., "Thread title by User on Date & Time"). But rather than displaying the 'lastpostby' info (which shows the most recent reply by anyone, anywhere in the forum) for the blogs, we'd prefer to show the date & title of the most recently started blog entry/thread (even if an older blog thread has received more recent replies).
Looking into the code, I don't see any easy of doing what we want to do. Once you're looking at a specific, individual thread (e.g., in forumdisplay) it's easy to grab the date that thread was opened. And there's lots of built-in functionality for finding the 'lastpostby' info for a forum. But I haven't found anything that would tell you what the last 'dateline' info for a forum (i.e. what the date was of the most recently started thread) was. Do I need to create my own SQL query to find out that info? Or can it be done some other, easier way? |
