As you may know, setting moderator positions can be a real hasstle, especially when you want to rotate moderators, make sure that moderators have the forums they want, while guaranteeing that there are not too many moderators per forum. Then, of course, there are moderators who disappear for a year and then reappear right when you take away their powers.
This is my solution! I call it "Adopt a Forum." Once a member is put into a moderator usergroup (a trusted member), they can pick from a list of adoptable forums (perhaps GC is unadoptable...). Once a forum is adopted, a member remains a moderator for an x period of time (let's say, three months) determined by the admin, and must opt whether to or not to receive email notification for their selected forum.
An admin could also determine if a particular moderator usergroup can moderate one forum or x forums (perhaps this could be determined by post count, referrals, etc., but this could be set up in the promotion section of the AdminCP).
