Why vbulletin 5 has a few modifications?

This is why "upgrading" just for the sake of upgrading buries you, quite often. Trying to be cool and hip, and have all the newest gadgets.

Research before the fact, and also having a truly COMPELLING reason to "upgrade" are your friends.
