PHP Execution in BBCode
I think there may have been a mod awhile ago for 3.0 that did this.. But I've been searching and unable to find it.
The idea is simple, but making it happen is another story entirely. The basic idea is there's a button that makes the replacement instead of plain text, some php-parsed code. So, if you check that box you could write some code there, like maybe fetch some data from a database, and echo that out.. That echo'd result would then become the replacement. To be clear, I am not suggesting USERS get to write their own php code that gets executed, that would be insane in the head. This is purely an admin thing, to make a BBCode which executes some PHP in order to fetch the replacement text. One semi-practical example is this, if any of you have seen the YouTube Developer API you may be wondering how can that work for you? Well, instead of a simple youtube tag that calls up the embedded player, you could fetch all kinds of information about that video like the author and comments, ratings, etc.. and display those along with the embedded video. In other words, instead of just replacing a code with static HTML, you can replace it with dynamically generated content. |
