Bulk PM and Keyword Alert
Hi VB.Org,
I was thinking how some boards have issues with members spamming other members with adverts or links to other sites. This is usually done by PM'ing or emailing. But PM'ing seems to be the most popular way because it is private and hard to detect. Vbulletin has implemented a type of safeguard for this by allowing admins to set a limit of how many PM's can be sent at any one time. But wouldn't it be nice if the admin knew who was trying to bulk spam members either with PM's or emails in the first place? A hack that when someone tries to send three or four PM's (whether that is the PM limit or not is regardless), or a PM with a banned word (competitions URL), you get notified of who it is? I think a keyword alert would also be very handy. Lets say you have a competing forum somewhere and you think that your opposition has joined your site simply to pilfer your members by PM'ing them. As soon as a keyword (the URL to your competitions site in this case) is sent via a PM, you get an email saying who and what has been sent and the PM never gets to the recipient but appears to the sender as if it did. Now if you read the content of this PM and it is harmless (someone laughing at your competition's site), you can then click on a link in the alert email that you received to complete the sending of it. Also, please don't add to this thread about privacy, there are already numerous hacks available to read people's PMs. This one would take away the need to read PM's until they appear to be sending data which could be harmful to your site. This kind of PM / Keyword hack could extend to VB compatible chat rooms and email systems to. Would this be hard to create? Regards Reggie |
