Conditional search using PHP/SQL: like 'browse' on Myspace
how would you code a script that searches a SQL database based on values in a form, and then returns a list of items that meet your requirements? like how the "browse" function works on myspace?
for exampe: 'list all of the people that have red hair and have green eyes and are single' Is there something lke this already availible, since its used in lots of different places? thanks, Nick |

you might be able to get something off on one of the free script sites, however there's nothing like that for vBulletin, though there's something close made by Andreas i beleive.
I would personally suggest coding it yourself. |

^^ Agreed. However, here is a list of current parameters that are built in for reference. http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=107955

I would love to code it myself, but am not expirienced enough with PHP to write a script from scratch. I wouldn't know where to start.
It doesn't neccessarily have to integrate with vB- it just has to be on a "vB compatible" page. (by vB compatible I mean able to access the vB log-in and permissions system) The database that it is quererying is independant from the vB database. It's actually to browse microphones based on criteria: For example, in my table 'microphones' I have fields: make, model, frequency response, max spl, etc.. The user should be able to go to a microphone browse form, choose 'Shure' in the "make" drop down box, and when they click submit, it returns a list of all microphones in the database whos make is shure. I'm not even sure of where to begin- I guess i'd need to see an example, and could figure out how it works from that. |
