duplicating templates

Hi,

due to the design I have on my page and forum, I have an issue:

when you are viewing private messages there is an overflow cause of the user control panel being at the side

I have sorted this out on every other page that its occuring but not this one

this is due to the fact when viewing a pm it uses the same postbit template as the rest of the forum, so if i edit that the rest of the forum gets skewed

what I need to do is have another edited version of postbit which I can then call from pm_showpm

I tried to just copy paste it into a new template and change $postbit in pm_showpm to $newpostbit, though that doesn't appear to be the correct way of doing it

things are never as simple as you anticipate, any help would be great!

Ok leaving your new postbit template intact along with the changes you made to pm_showpm, try importing this product to activate the template that you have added.

part of the way there, that now takes the template that I duplicated

I just did a straight copy of it though to see that it worked

it reads the template but the actual private message doesn't come up, maybe the templates that are called from postbit aren't being called from newpostbit?

Ok, what about a lite version of your postbit template that just contains the username, title, date and time of the PM, and the PM body, instead of all the other info. This can be controled via template conditionals without the need for the additional template.

If you would like me to have a look at it, please provide a copy of your postbit template (wrapped in [ code][ /code] tags), and screenshots of your postbit as seen in a thread and again in a PM.

as you can see the control panel in the user area means that its too wide but if I alter the postbit to make it fit then the ones in normal threads don't use the whole width available
