I ran Spitfire BBS back in the days. The author of it lives about 10 miles from me so I was in on all the updates and beta testing up front. That's when a 10 MHZ AST (what I had) would kick a 12 MHZ Compaq (what the Spitfire author had) to dust. We thought we were the Kings of the hill back then.

I was the bad boy on my block back then with the fastest BBS in town if not the state. I guess you could consider me the PC-Rebel of the Golden Age.
[high]* Boofo has given everyone enough ammunition now for the age jokes. He hopes they are happy[/high] |

I could read a 1000-new-message board faster then, than I can now! --don |

But you have to realize, Revan, back then we didn't use all the graphics and "pretty" stuff they use now. We used straight color coded files with nothing but text. Boards were slow, yes, but not as slow as you would think for the technology available then. Since there were no higher speeds to compare to, (until the blazing 2400 Baud modem showed up) we felt like were zooming at the time.
