Well, members on my boards like it.
And it saves a lot of time if you have a lot of pms.

The advantages of that hack are that you can see the content of your messages without actually opening them. It also cuts out quotations so you only see the body of the message.

Because the installation and deinstallation takes only a minute, I believe it's worth a try.

The README for the hack include an alternate method, which is that PM previous pop up as a tool-tip (when you hover over the PM title.) This is a happy compromise and my users LOVE it. Very clean, very nice. Makes it super easy to manage lots of PM's.

The hack's thread also includes a tip on how to make it user-optional:

I find the hack very useful on my own board, and I think it would work well here
