Default Ban anonymous forum visiting here

Hi,

I had some problems recently on my forum with people using anonymous proxies to get access once they were banned from the forum.

I spent a bit of time on Google and find the most popular online proxies for surfing and then got their IPs (not always the same as their site) and have banned them from the forum.

Since doing this I've noticed that the banned members trying to get access have gone and upon testing the proxys I got the message saying the IP is banned.

Anyway if you want to add them to your site the IPs are below

85.195.119.22
85.195.123.22
85.195.123.29
216.127.72.7
67.15.77.221
67.15.62.43
65.110.6.33
81.176.65.202
63.208.219.45
63.208.219.40
66.98.152.31
69.69.215.44
72.9.252.242
72.232.20.146
72.232.10.226
64.92.167.26
72.36.221.10
64.111.105.28
65.98.35.234
64.27.5.168
72.29.85.142
83.133.51.75
70.86.101.210
64.191.78.165
64.191.15.37
69.41.173.145
69.93.230.202
219.109.236.37
67.15.77.123

Just copy and past the above in to your banned IPs section in the control panel.

You might want to bear in mind that some ISP's use proxies as standard.

Yes they do, but those aren't included in my list above.

The list above are websites like anonymouse.org that offer the free service of hiding your IP address while you visit a website. The reason I've banned them is because I can't think of any legitimate reason for anyone to do that while visiting my forum.

This will not affect anyone that has an ISP that uses a proxy so users on AOL and similar will all be fine.

Granted, but I thought I'd point it out for those who didn't know and took your list then went on an Proxy IP search-fest and ended up blocking legitimate users from their forums.

Well that's up to them, the list above is safe and won't have that problem as I visited each site and logged on to my forum from it and collected the IP via the control panel on my site.

It took some time to do this, but was worth it, so I thought I'd mention it on here to save anyone else that time and also allow them to make their site more secure should they wish to do this.

I'm not knocking the idea or the effort you've put into it. I just know how people can be sometimes.

The people that use Proxies to keep anonymous, change almost daily, since the real anonymus proxies mostly don't last longer then that. When i am in use of something like this, i even use a list of over 1000 fresh proxies (max 24 hours old), and software that will change the used proxy for each page loaded.

Bottom line is that by composing a list like this, you are always too late.

The list I have compiled above is a list that I have confirmed to stay the same.

There are some proxies that do change IP address quite often, but they are normally paid proxies, the ones above are free ones that I know keep the same IP address, so the list does a good job.

Nice list and thanks, but I have to agree with MarcoH64.

Your fighting a never ending battle were proxies are concerned. However I'll use your list if you sure there are no ISP's in the list.

These are static IP proxies, so they will not be changing unless they move hosts. There are more professional proxy services out there that do change often, but these aren't on the list.

The ones above are popular free proxies accessed via a webpage and there are 100% definately not any ISPs in that list. I've been running it for a week now and so far nothing has come in from any non-banned users on our support system reporting a problem accessing the forum.

Fair enough the above are only a handful, but if you can remove the free proxies from the access list then you've removed quite an amount of abuse surely. Only those that use the more professional or paid proxies (or ones not currently on the list) are going to get access. You'll probably never remove all, but some is better than none.
