Known IP Alert System
The concept:
the admin is allowed to listing in admincp via a plugin or product a set of IP numbers and if they are in using giving an automatic alert in admincp or directly via email. This idea I'm bringing because most of banned user re-register and targeting (most of them) to damage the community and the quality of the forum. an example you banned the user Momo and Momo have used the IP 85.100.200.300 Then you tipping that in the requested modification and if the IP is re-using the system will give an alert. It have to be also possible to put not only full IP I mean only a part like this 85.100.200 and than the system will give an alert if the IP 85.100.200.001 or greater was or is in using. in some regios and countries the clients became IPs like 85.100.2XX.XX and that will be a powerfull help to find re-registering and to clean the banned user to have a little more cleanless. Hey vb coder did you like this idea? Or is there a similiar thread? Or any other kinds of idea? Thanks in advance. Regards from the alps PS: I know there is a search via IP included in vbulletin but is not so good in handle. |

I'm looking for something along these lines as well, and maybe I can put it in better English.
I'd like to be able to create a list in the admincp (much like the IP banning list) that will "flag" IP addresses on that list. Whenever someone posts using a flagged IP address, I will get an email saying who is using that IP and a link to the thread. I'd also like to be able to flag a range of IP's. So you could have a banned member who may think he's sneaky by going to a friend's house to re-register so that the registration IP address can't be cross-referenced with anything in my database if I were to be moderating new accounts. But he goes home and starts using his usual computer and uses IP addresses back in his normal range. I wouldn't know this unless I actually went looking for it, but if I had an IP alert hack, it would tell me right away. This is less restrictive than simply banning those IP ranges because then innocent members won't be affected. I can go in on a one-by-one basis and disregard users I know are legitimate and use a geo-locator to further determine if the person is a previously banned member or not. A banned user "JoeSchmoe" can register with an IP address of 24.325.98.4 that is completely unique to anything he's ever posted with before, but once he goes home and starts using his usual IP addresses in the range of 68.210, I'll know. It's clear that banning IP ranges and moderating new users is not very effective in catching the most crafty banned users. They can use a unique IP to register that would get past admin scrutiny, but eventually they start using IP's in the same range that their past usernames had been using. It would be an indispensable feature if we could be alerted when those IP addresses are finally used. |

Have you looked at Spambuster?
You can work the rules in it sufficiently that it will catch most malicious comments. I am testing it, and it seems to do an excellent job at catching spam. I cannot see why it could not catch bad or negative comments. |
