Default Overdoing it with mods

I'm fed up with seing totally irrelevant hacks in forums just cause the admin had a mod frenzy some night. One example is arcades in tech forums (I had a lot more examples but I can't think of any currently). Why can't some people understand that overstuffing a forum with modifications isn't the way to make it succeed? I've seen forums with sooo many info on the posbit that makes you tired even to look at. I've seen forums with sooo many things in the navbar that makes the page look bad even at a 1280x1024 resolution. I've seen forums with so manu table rows in the "What's going on?" table that confuse you totally, especially when there are birthdays and events on the day as well. I've seen forums with so many modifications that they need 3 navbars (!).
If that's not overdoing then what is? I am starting to think that some admins believe that "the more hacks you have installed, the better your forum is".

What are your opinions in this?

I don't think so (if it's the one that you have as your homepage)

I wholeheartedly agree.. Some people have 100s of modifications installed just to have modifications but they don't really enhance the forum experience. Features are not necessarily a means to an ends.

Of course they can. But each site has a purpose and tech sites are not meant to be a playground.

Can't agree more, too many hacks is bad, especially when half of them are useless to the forum.

Also if these forums run on 3.0.x they never upgrade cause they have to do loads of work and thus being vulnerable at exploits (you can find vb 3.0.x exploits even with googling whereas I've seen none for 3.5.1 that are so easy to find yet)...
