Default Custom Field + Sql query?
Is it possible to have a custom field check to see if the information entered has already been entered by another user?


Basically i want user's to have display names but it wouldent be good if people started making displaynames that are the same

I desperatly need any direction on this.

Yes it is possible, there are hooks in the profile section of the usercp where you can (once the user has submitted) check to see if the name is already used by running a query, and if so, stop the execution of the code and print out an error saying "hey dumbo, display name is already in use".

But i forgot to mention that i have the field setup so it can only be built/edited at user registration.
Would i still do this in the same place?

No, you would have to do it in the registration hooks if that was the case (im not sure where, I havent looked into those hooks )

If you get it to work, you should release it as a hack. I know that I at least would probably use it.
