Replacing attachment, and keeping same ID/Link
This seems like it should be sucha simple thing to do, but evidently not. I've been in contact with many people at vbulletin.com to do this and apparently the only way to do it is by modding the original vb code some how? Here is my thread at vbulletin.com:
http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=164416 I just cant for the life of me understand or fathom how this could be such a big deal. All I want is to replace one uploaded attachment with another, and have it keep the exact same link address. THATS IT! Someone please come up with a way to do what I need, or atleast give me some intructions on the general direction I need to go to figure it out myself. |

Its harder than you think it is. The reasons you want to do it also dont really warrant the amount of time the modification would require.
Just delete the attachment, or use another method to stop that single attachment from displaying. |

Like Honda, I too am looking for a mod that will allow the forum members to update attachments. The forum is set up to allow members to edit their posts (and thus attachments) for a limited time only, this is to promote thread continuity. Once the edit time expires the users can only delete attachments. However, there often is a need to update, for example, a spreadsheet with a newer version. Currently this can't be done, once the edit time expires the attachment can only be deleted, not updated.
Is there anything out there, a mod, that'll do what I'm looking for? For example, it would be great if members could use the attachment manager in their User CP to choose between deleting and updating. Thanks! -RoB- |
