I posted this over at vbulletin.com's forums and was told to ask over here so here it goes
----------- I know this has been asked a million times I have spent the past 45 minutes searching the forums, but can not find the answer I am looking for. I am trying to re-develop a current forum. We will call it site1. We also have site2 which is a "worksafe" version which redirects to site1 and covers the "unwork safe domain", to a "worksafe skin" we have and filters out all the curse words and so on. What we want to do is keep site2 on its own domain instead of just redirecting and hiding the domain for site1. I understand that it will require 2 licenses (which we own) but I am looking to find out just how to do it. In theory it doesn't seem that hard to do, but I'm not sure. I'm probally not explaining this very well sorry. -------------- any help would be appericiated Thanks. |

This will depend on your server setup, but it should be possible to point the second IP to the same IP. Maybe some rewrite rules needed.

No that isn't how I would do it.
This is what you want, becuase I've done it. Two sites that share certain DB information. Basically you setup an install of VB with database comments VB1 and VB2 then you comment out the tables you want it to share. I set up a site that wanted to use the same users and pm data on another site, on the same server. They also wanted to show posts and threads in two forums, on the second forum as well. So no matter what site you viewed they showed up. But both forums could have different layouts, different options turned on, different domains but share the same user table. So no matter what site I visit, my user name is the same, and if you sent me a PM on site one I could read it on site two. I could post on site two and see it on site one. Hope that wasn't confusing, but you want to share database tables. There has been alot of discussion on this and how to on vb.com |
