Don't really know how to explain...
On my forums, I deleted a few members so its like this with the member id's, there's no 2,3,4,5 etc.
Is there anyway, that when a member is removed, it doesn't effect the user ID, e.g. so if I remove a member the member above will then become that ID... if you get what I mean it's kinda confusing. Dam sorry, I don't have a clue how I posted this in the vB2 forum, could some one please move it up to the vB 3.5 forum? |

The massive updating that would need to go on to do this would be insane esp as your numbers grow. Lets assume you have 1000 users in your database, and you delete 4 of them in differnt areas You'd have to renuber up to 900 some users, including all id's in posts, threads, pms, and possibly other places in the system. Not to mention you'd have to reset mysql's auto incriment and possible permission issues... Its not worth the trouble, you've got A few billion possible id's |

Hmmm ok thanks guys, but what if I'm just starting my forum and I had to test a few hacks and had to delete members 2,3 so it jumps from member 1-4, anyway to change it so theres no gap. Theres only 2 members since it's not even open yet also...
if not nevermind it's just me being fussy! :nervous: |

Userids are totally irrelevant, they are just IDs and nothing else ... so who cares if there are "gaps" or not?
