A navbar question

Ok I will try my best to explain this in words you know navbar template has two parts first part is breadcrumbs atleast thats what template is saying which gives us nav options like

and the PM but after that

second part contains the dhtml menu, well I want to seperate the dhtml menu away from the first breadcrumb bits, so I took the breadcrumb bits out of the navbar template just leaving it with dhtml menu only, next I created a new template with the name of logbar and added the breadcrumbs bit to it all is well now. Now I look at say forumhome template and see that to recall the navbar it uses something like $navbar to recall it so what I do is add $logbar to places where I want logbar to appear but it doesnt appear. Am I doing something wrong? if yes, can anyone please correct me, it would be greatly appreciated.
