Could use critique on our forums..

Hi there..

We launched our forums at Bagook.com today after playing around with layout and stuff for a couple of days.

I'm curious what you guys think of what we've done so far (it still lacks people and content.. so ignore this).

The "Featured Topics" will be clickable hotlinks to topics we'd like people to read.. since there are like no topics yet those buttons are missing.

Oh and before you cry "he removed the copyright" - I purchased a brand-free version of VB.

In the state it's in I' not much of a fan, but I DO like the header and if your "other pages" were consistant with your vB colour scheme, I think it could rock.

In other words, it's a hunk of junk.

I think your header is too chaotic. That's just the feeling I get.

Also think you need to work on your forum tables now, the default templates don't really suit your header, whereas the default postbit looks fine against your header.

• Header area is too 'busy'.
• Your 'stats' message is too small. If you could care less about it move it to the bottom of the page.
• Ouch, none of your header buttons have their equivalent alternate/title text.
• Arggghh, popup windows.

you're right. It is.

I would take the very very top links and put them at the bottom and put the second row of links at the top.

1) you've fixed the width at some huge amount by putting two 468x60 ad bars next to each other, horizontally. this is not good. your users who aren't using a high resolution have to scroll back and forth. take one of those bars and put it at the bottom.

2) again, your header at the top is too wide. make it a maxiumum of 760 pixels in width.

3) i see that you're using the navbar to feature 6 forums, you'll have to lessen it to fit in that 760 pixel space, otherwise, again, users using 800x600 will get pissed off.

4) that white on grey is annoying. add something there to make it more legible. more space, some black in there, something.

5) not a single person is going to read that huge block of text under the nav bar. do away with it, please.

6) again, under Welcome to the Bagook Forums, that block of text is too much and illegible with that white on grey, space it out and do away with at least 1/2 of it.

7) what is this forum about? do NOT have a forum about nothing and about everything. you can do this if you're Yahoo! or something, but not with a small start-up board. At least have ONE thing you're focussing on. Are you about movies, games, politics?
