Is it legal to take for example icons from a IPB or a Ikonboard to use them with vB?

I like the IPB images, they are nice. But you'd have to ask for permission from the developers and owners of IPB before you could use them on another forum software.

You should ask the author's permission first.

As stated, you would have to get the authors permission before using the images on your site. Dos'nt anyone remember way back when the infopop style got released for vBulletin 2?, at first the zip contained the images used in ubb.classic 6 but had to be taken down because infopop caught wind of it.
The author eventally released a new style with the same template layout containing new buttons he made (or had made). |

imho you should ask the author for permission.... I wouldn't like it either if someone just took my buttons and used them on his site.
