Forums running VERY slow
I have searched for other threads like this, and the common response seems to be "change hosts"...
I am on a shared host, but I don't believe that's the problem because I ran vbulletin on a previous website with the same host and didn't have a problem. Is there anything else I can check as far as the settings, etc???? www.bikebuilders.com Thank you, Rob |

Same host doesn't necessarily mean same server.
What loads do you get? |

i bet you're oversubscribed or there's an abusive client on your box.

Ok, first of all, I am originally from Alabama.... Need I say more???? Let's take this down to like a kindergarten level.
My host is Hostsave. Oversubscribed???? What does that mean? Abusive Client???? Is that the guy in line at Wal-Mart with 11 items in the express lane??? The fact that I knew my server loads may have led you to believe I actually know what I am doing here. The only reason I knew them was because someone else checked it out for me. Help me out here guys... What does all that stuff mean, and what do I do to correct it? Thanks, Rob |

Oversubscribed means that your host placed to many accounts on the same server, so as to save money. The number of accounts has an influence on the performance though.
And your abusive client example isn't bad. It could be that one client on the same server is blocking up a whole lot of resources, making the whole server slow down. |

This is common in shared hosting, they cram as many sites on one box as they can, this allows them to make a profit. It works the same way with their bandwidth, they buy enough for say 20 sites then split it between 30 or more.
Just because you used the same host doesn't mean you where placed on the same server, and even if it was the same server they could have taken on many clients in the time between your two forums. The best thing to do in this situation is the let the host know about the problem and have them look into it, if they don't get it fixed in a timely manner look elsewhere for hosting. |

if you have a webhost that gives you cpanel. go to the server loads function periodically and take a snapshot of what the server loads are and note them throughout the day. the best way to do this is to open up some sort of graphics editor, go to the page with the server loads and click "shift + print screen". then go to your graphics editor and "paste". crop the entire page down to that server load area and i'd note the time and date on that screen capture.
i know this sounds tedious, but it is good evidence and then you should email it to your webhost's support. hopefully, they will move you to a better box. i've had several incidences and once shared a box with an abusive client which was using their site as a download mirror. that just killed the box. luckily, they were suspended soon thereafter. how're your server loads now? |
