Default Need Help: Can't get non-VB page password protection hacks to work

To clarify, I'm trying to make a non-vb page on my site accessible only to my site's forum members. There are about three hacks here that I can find that are supposed to achieve this, and I run into the same problem with all of them. Well those hacks haven't been replied to in about three years, so I'm gonna test my luck here...

The problem is that any page I want to restrict where I stick the following line of code in to read the global.php file...

PHP Code:
<?php include("forums/global.php"); ?>
it just opens up the forum login page. I don't understand why it does this (and I'm a learn-as-I-go novice at all of this). It seems like instead of including the global.php file for the rest of my code to use, it tries to open www.mysite.com/forums/global.php, and hence just gets re-directed to my forums.

This is an ongoing problem I've had with any hack I've tried to install which requires global.php (ie, non-vb page login box, etc.). I would post more details, but I've tried to many hacks and had this problem that it must be something more top-level that I'm just overlooking. But if more details are needed, I'd be happy to post them.

Could someone please let me know why this happens to me? Thanks! :ermm:

I am a bit surprised that it does anything at all, since you seem to be calling it from another directory then the forum directory, without first chdir to the forum directory.

Try using 'require_once' instead of 'include'.

So you're saying there can't be a path in the include() syntax? Okay, I chdir'd to the forum directory, and I still get the problem. Here is the code I'm using, from MO's mod...

PHP Code:
<?php
chdir
('forums');
require_once(
'global.php3');
?>

//**********************MeTaL_oRgY Pass-protected pages script******************
<?php
if($bbuserinfo['usergroupid']==1){
print(
"
<table>
<tr>
<td>You must <a href=\"register.php\">register</a> and login first before accessing this page.
</td>
</tr>
</table>
"
);

}else if (
$bbuserinfo['usergroupid']==3){
print(
"
<table>
<tr>
<td>You are a registered memeber and are logged-in but your e-mail hasn?t been confirmed yet. Please check your e-mail for the activation of your account.
</td>
</tr>
</table>
"
);

}else{
print(
"

<html>
<head>
<title>:::MeTaL_oRgY Login Script Test Page:::</title>
</head>
<body bgcolor=\"#333333\">
<table border=\"1\" style=\"border-collapse: collapse; border-left-width: 0; border-right-width: 0\" bordercolor=\"#111111\" width=\"400\" align=\"center\">
<tr>
<td style=\"border-left-color: #111111; border-left-width: 1; border-right-color: #111111; border-right-width: 1\" bgcolor=\"#808080\">
<p align=\"center\"><u><b><font size=\"1\" face=\"Verdana\" color=\"#FFFFFF\">

</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td style=\"border-left-style: none; border-left-width: medium; border-right-style: none; border-right-width: medium\">&nbsp;</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td style=\"border-left-color: #111111; border-left-width: 1\" bgcolor=\"#C0C0C0\">
If you can see this page, you installed everything correctly :P.<br>
Congratulations!!<br>&nbsp;

</td>
</tr>
</table>
</body>
</html>

"
);

?>
//**********************MeTaL_oRgY Pass-protected pages script END***************
When I'm not logged in, it doesn't display "You must register" like it should based on the first condition statement. It just takes me to the forum login.

Don't know how useful it will be, but here's the link: www.mvpmania.com/test.php
