limiting posting
I can't see how this could be done as standard. But if anyone knows different, or can point me to a ready-made hack I'd appreciate it!
Our forum got swamped with a spate of silly games recently, we stopped them, but it wouldn't be a problem if we could have a subforum where users can only post a limited number of times on any one thread each day. Either by a flat limit, or a minimum time between posts for example. We probably wouldn't want the posts to count towards post totals either. Any pointers greatly appreciated Jim Deakin |

Maybe you can use my Thread limiting hack. Check the link in my signature.

If I read that right, it stops a user initiating more than x threads in a forum, but doesn't stop them posting any number of times on the thread once it's started? That's just about the opposite of what we'd like. Ideally a user could start any number of threads (if they overdid that we'd just ban them), but we want to force a delay between posts on any one thread, to stop flooding.
Thanks for the quick answer anyway |

Well i think you can easily twist the hack a bit to do what you want. If you can not do it yourself, i will have a look myself, but can't make any promisses on time, since some family problems have a bit of priority over vB atm.

Sorry to reactivate this issue after so long. :nervous:
Was anyone able to find a way to limit posts per day? This is a feature I really need. I'd rather not use the time between posts setting since I just want to set a cap of say 5 posts a day posted at any time. Is there a hack for this or is the setting maybe included in the newer versions (I'm running 3.0.0)? Thanks, Don |

And what you would call 'a day'? On the internet people live in many different timezones.

I'm not a programmer and can't get too deep in the code but this seems like a logical and needed feature for boards like mine. vBulletin has every other option under the sun, why not this one? |
