I just got vBulletin 3.0.7 and now have it up and running, and for the past day or so I've been searching the forums (with little success) on how to customize vB for my needs. I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction regarding the following:
1) How do I change the user registration and login procedures to use full name or email address? I want all users to use real identities (no nicknames). 2) How do I enable subscription to all forums by default? 3) How do I enable instant email notification to subscribed forums? Right now, I can only see the possibility for daily or weekly digests. 4) How do I enable email notification for every single reply regardless of whether or not they visit the actual threads on the forums? Sorry, I'm sure the above topics have been covered before but I just couldn't find the answers. Thanks, Aylwin |

1) If you mean that they should be using a real name as member name (or een in a real name field), then my question to you would be: How to recognize a real name?
If you want them to use real email address, switch on email verification in vBulletin Options. They will need to click on a link mailed to them to finish the registration process, so you will know the mail is valid. 3. Are you sure you want this? How many post and member do you expect? 4. See 3. |

Thanks for the replies!
1) I've already created custom profile fields for first name and surname, and I can make them required fields during registration. However, I want to disable the use of "normal" usernames, as such, and use either the full name or the email address for logging in. Also, I would like the full name to be displayed throughout the forums (profile, posts, member list, etc.) Our forums will be running on an intranet (inaccessible from the internet) so I know already that all users will be employees with valid email addresses and we'll know who they are. Of course, I could just ask everyone to use their full name as their username but I'd rather not have to correct mistakes of people who don't read instructions. My last resort of course is to just create the user accounts myself but that's going to be a pain. 2) & 3) Pardon my ignorance but what exactly do I need to do with MySQL? 4) Yes, I'm sure I want to do this. The number of users is limited and network is under our control. Thanks, Aylwin |

At least half a dozen recent posts about managing forum subscriptions. Maybe it's time to consider adding this feature in a future version.
