Future VBulletin User Questions Support...
Hello there!
I am almost certainly a future user of the vBulletin message board system. The software is being purchased for a well-established community that has been having issues with CGI exploitation and server hijackings (nasty stuff). I've watched the growth of vBulletin for an exceptionally long time (probably since the launch... how many years has it been now?). For as long as I can remember, the product has been respectable and chic, so it feels right to finally procure vBulletin. Now, personally, I tend to lean more the way of PHPBB because I love the freedom of the software and the wonderful group of people who develop it. Still, it's fair to say that vBulletin can share that spotlight. My question: I've used many message board applications in my years on the internet, some paid and some free. One thing I found common with many paid versions of software was a bitter, bitter support department. When I pay for vBulletin, am I assured a top-quality support crew with thoughtful and caring members? In the past, I've been humiliated, yelled at, disparaged, and cursed at for being "incompetent." When I buy this, I want to feel proud of the action. I want to be able to run through fields of flowers screaming, "I love vBulletin!!!" (You get the idea.) I don't want to receive a response to my support ticket with the words, "You suck, freak" carefully placed in their most degrading positions. So, what do you current vBulletin members have to say? Can I feel protected and content giving my money to Jelsoft? Thanks for taking the time to read this rather peculiar message. Your comments are much appreciated. Bruce |

Screw it!
After searching through some of the forums, it looks as though I'm making a safe bet. I've purchased a leased license. Thanks, Bruce |

vb is far better than a lot of the other boards out there - whether paid for or for free
But and yep there is a but - vb has a long way to go before it over takes the other free boards for hacks or skins. Now dont get me wrong - there is some decent people on here who will bend over backwards to help u solve a problem or make hacks for everyone to use but lately im seeing `if u want it pay for it kind of approach` and i think this is gonna be more common in 2005 as the trend is deffo leaning that way. At the moment anyway dont knock the other boards cause u will find hacks that u used to have aint available for vb3 (vb3 cant cope with amount of hacks that other boards offer for free) Example - look for a FREE paypal integration hack - u wont find one whereas other boards throw this at u for nothing. Is many other decent hacks that are available for other boards but not vb3 like decent downloaders managers. Now the good news - vb3 is the best board without a doubt - it has many good hacks and proberly a lot more to come - u need help u post on here and people will always help u in whatever way they can so i aint knocking vb at all but just saying be sure its what u want. |
